IFU makes direct equity and debt investments using IFU’s own funds and as a fund manager for several investment funds, all with a strong focus on impact investing. All investments must support the green transition and contribute to poverty alleviation and reduced inequality.
The Legal Counsel will be working out of the Nairobi office at IFU but supporting teams in other IFU locations too, creating economic and social progress in developing countries through impact investments with 6 close colleagues in IFU Legal (which are based in Copenhagen and in New Delhi, India). There will be training and on-boarding of the selected candidate in Copenhagen.
The Candidate will support the IFU mainly the Green Energy team in debt and M&A transactions and provide legal advice in relation to the legal aspects of such impact investments. This includes the preparation, review and negotiation of legal documentation and assisting in structuring transactions in collaboration with external law firms. You will be involved in the entire process, and your advice plays a significant role. From time to time the transactions will require you to travel abroad to visit the project, and travel may occur at short notice. However, we try to be as flexible as possible in order to maintain a healthy work/life balance

The Investment Director is a fully versatile expert developing and managing investments within sustainable food systems and has proven skills and technical excellence in managing critical investment projects that create significant impact. The sector covers investments into the entire food value chain including primary agriculture, agro-processing, agriculture inputs and forestry. He/she will be expected to establish relationships with senior internal and external stakeholders that stretch across several functions and geographies, actively develop the investment pipeline and manage demanding business relationships
The Operations officer will work as a full-time member of the FSD Kenya team, be a member of the Project management office (PMO) and report directly to the Head of operations. Given the core value of collaboration and cross-working, the Operations officer will support other colleagues including the CEO and Programme management team (PMT) to achieve the programme objectives, ensure stewardship of the Trust’s resources and adherence to policies and procedures.
The Operations officer will be responsible for providing efficient day-to-day operations support to the programme. H/She will be at the front-line in assuring staff are well apprised and compliant with key policies and procedures. Together with the Operations lead, s/he will ensure a well organised Operations and HR function that runs efficiently, avoiding wastage of resources and time.
The ESG Manager will undertake ESG Due Diligence (DD) of IFU investments across sectors in Africa. In close collaboration with the S&I team in Copenhagen, the ESG manager will implement IFU requirements and support the developments of Environmental and Social Action Plans (ESAP) and Corporate Governance Action Plans (CGAP). In addition, the role will support monitoring of action plan implementation and manage E&S risks and potential negative impacts as part of IFU’s active ownership.
The ESG Manager will engage in conversations with investment colleagues on new investments and support early screening in accordance with IFU’s impact priority areas
The Investment Director will have a well-developed understanding of the possibilities and trends with concessional or blended finance, e.g. from multilateral development banks, EU or other institutions with a development mandate in concessional or blended finance. Management of key aspects of investment processes related to public infrastructure investments, including financial analysis and structuring, development, and climate impact, environmental, social and governance, legal, scoping and carrying through due diligence, negotiating agreements.
